System requirements
Windows
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| System | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 11 |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti (2 GB) | NVIDIA GTX 1660 or RTX 2060, or newer (6 GB) |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 2200G | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, or newer |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 600 MB | 3 GB |
An NVIDIA card gets the high-accuracy model. Without one, including AMD and Intel graphics, it uses a smaller model on the processor, which is less accurate and takes longer. Windows on ARM isn't supported.
macOS
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| System | macOS 12 Monterey | The latest macOS |
| Chip | Any Intel Mac that runs macOS 12 | Apple M1 or newer |
| Graphics | Not used on Intel | Built into the Apple chip |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 600 MB | 1.5 GB |
Apple chips get the high-accuracy model. Intel Macs use the smaller one. It needs Microphone and Device Control and Data Access permission (called Accessibility on older macOS), which is what lets it notice the hotkey and type into other apps. Updates aren't automatic on a Mac: murmrrr tells you when there's a new one.
You'll also need a microphone. The internet is only for downloading, the speech model on first launch, and updates.
What murmrrr uses: sitting idle, almost no processor, about 500 MB of RAM, and about 1 GB of video memory if it's on a graphics card. An 11 second clip turns into text in under a second on a graphics card, and in a second or two on a good processor.

Where your voice goes
Nowhere. It's processed on your computer. More on the privacy page.
What it accesses, and why
- The microphone, to hear you. It's only open while you dictate, unless you turn on Keep microphone warm.
- A keyboard shortcut listener, to know when you hold the hotkey.
- Device Control and Data Access on a Mac (called Accessibility on older macOS), to notice the hotkey and type into other apps.
What it doesn't do
- No keystroke logging. It only reacts to its own shortcuts, and stores no keys.
- No screen capture.
- No uploading your voice.
- No selling data. There are no analytics in the app at all.

Easy to remove
Changed your mind? murmrrr has an Uninstall button on its About tab that removes everything.
About those warnings
Windows may show a SmartScreen warning and macOS may say the app is from an unidentified developer. That's because murmrrr isn't code-signed yet, not because something is wrong. Here's how to get past each one.
