Privacy
The short version: your voice stays on your computer, and I don't collect anything about how you use murmrrr.

Your voice
murmrrr turns speech into text on your computer, with whisper.cpp. Your audio is never sent to me or anyone else.
Audio goes from the recorder to the speech engine, which also runs on your computer, over an internal connection that doesn't leave the machine. It isn't kept. In one rare case, if the engine isn't responding, a clip is written to your temporary folder for the moment it takes to transcribe, then deleted straight away.
The microphone is only open while you're dictating and while the Microphone tab in settings is showing. If you turn on Keep microphone warm (it's off by default), it stays open while murmrrr runs, but still isn't recorded or sent anywhere unless you're dictating.
Your text and history
The text of your last 50 dictations is stored in a file on your computer, so you can find them on the History tab. Clear removes them, and so does uninstalling. It's never sent anywhere.
To type into other apps, murmrrr puts your words on the clipboard, pastes them, then puts your old clipboard back about a second later. If you use a clipboard history tool, such as Windows clipboard history (Win+V), or sync your clipboard between devices, that tool may keep a copy. That's between you and that tool.
The keyboard and what's in front
murmrrr listens for its own shortcuts using a system keyboard hook. It reacts to those and stores no keys. It doesn't log what you type.
When you dictate, it checks whether the cursor is in a text box, and reads the title of the window in front. That's only used on your computer, to spot an email app and lay your text out as an email. With Emojis on, it's also used to leave out code editors and terminals. It isn't saved or sent.
Settings and logs
Your settings and logs stay on your computer. Logs record things like when the app started and how long a dictation took. They include the length of your text, not the text. Settings include how loud you usually speak, which is what Focus on the voice uses. If you email me a log, that's your choice.
What goes over the internet
The app has no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting. It makes these connections and no others:

Activation sends your licence key, a fingerprint of the computer (a one-way scramble of its hardware ID, which can't be turned back into the ID), its name, your operating system and the murmrrr version. That's how a key stays on one computer at a time, and the name is only so you can tell which computer it's on at murmrrr.com/licence.
Like any web request, these share your IP address and basic details such as the app's user agent with the service you connect to. An update check asks which version is newest and what changed, and says which version you have and whether you're on Windows or a Mac. It doesn't send your dictations, settings or anything that identifies you. The Download page button opens murmrrr.com in your browser.
This website
murmrrr.com has no analytics, no ads and no tracking cookies. It remembers your dark or light choice in your own browser. Like most websites, the hosting provider (Railway) may keep basic request logs, including IP addresses, for security and running the service. The installers are stored on GitHub, which has its own privacy policy.
Buying murmrrr
Payments are handled by Stripe, which has its own privacy policy. I never see your card details. I keep your email address, your licence key, what you paid and when, and which computer the key is active on, so I can send you the key, let you download again, and help if something goes wrong. Refunds are handled through Stripe and cancel the key.
The support form
The form collects your name, email address, what's wrong, your operating system, your murmrrr version if you give it, your message, and a screenshot if you attach one. It's only used to reply to you.
It's sent to me as an email through Resend, an email delivery service, and stored in my mailbox on 123 Reg Professional Email. The website doesn't keep a copy, apart from holding your IP address in memory for up to an hour to limit spam. If the site uses a spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile), Cloudflare processes your request for that check. I delete support emails when they're no longer needed, and you can ask me to delete yours at any time.
Selling data
I don't sell data. There's no advertising in murmrrr.
Your rights
You can clear your history whenever you like, and uninstalling removes everything murmrrr stored on your computer. For anything you've sent me, you can ask to see it, correct it or delete it by emailing [email protected]. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have rights under data protection law, including complaining to your local regulator (the ICO in the UK).
Children
murmrrr doesn't collect personal data through the app. The support form is for people old enough to contact me themselves. If a child has sent me something, ask and I'll delete it.
Older versions
murmrrr 1.0.0 to 1.0.3, from October 2026, sent audio to a server and a cloud speech service to be turned into text. That stopped in 1.1.0, and those versions update themselves.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be here with a new date.
